When we first started to work on developing our new logo we realised we wanted to say thanks. We looked firstly towards those who had helped us in building our dream and those who had been a part of our growth. Our overall goal became to represent and pay tribute to all of those influences that have contributed to our progress and success.
How could we thank Thailand for offering us the opportunity to provide a home for our restaurant, the Thai people for being so welcoming and helpful especially in the early days? How could we pay tribute to our Singaporean background and the influence it had on our authentic cooking styles? How could we represent the strong Chinese and other Asian cooking influences in the Passionate Chiang Mai menu?
The logo we designed was born from uniting the head of the Merlion symbol into the signature striping of the Tiger’s body.
The Merlion symbol initiated from a mythical creature with a lion’s head and the body of a fish. It originated from Singapore’s original name—Singapura—meaning “lion city” (our origin and a strong influence in our cooking style) and the sea (our signature seafood specialties).
The Tiger symbol is closely associated with Thailand, but is also very important to other surrounding Asian nations such as China, Malaysia, Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, and Japan (our Asian fusion recipes). The symbol signifying a sense of both awe and admiration: its prowess, its power, its beauty, its sensuality and passion (our restaurant name), and the harmony of the opposites (our Asian fusion cuisine). The tiger is also full of life, and expresses the spirit and drive to achieve and make progress. Attributes we hope we bring to this wonderful synergy of qualities and influences.
While we could never hope to combine all the things we wanted to say into one symbol, we hope in some small way we have paid tribute to everyone who has been a part of our journey so far.
